Talmage's Birthday Party

Talmage's BATMAN Birthday Party
Saturday, August 25

On Saturday, Talmage had his first friend birthday party. He was so excited! I started planning and crafting about 2 weeks ahead of time. I wanted his party to be fun, cool, unique, and budget friendly. That meant making mostly everything. It was tiring but a lot of fun!

The Invite:

Decorations:

I made the Batman/Robin logo banner
I also tried to recreate Gotham City along the walls.

We used a lot of his Batman toys, since he has so many, to add to the decor.
The kids loved playing with his "cool" Batman stuff.
We gave him this tall Batman the morning of his party, as an early Birthday gift.

Here's the first game we played: Pin the Bat on Batman. I used a black poster board, had Talmage lay down on it, and traced around him. Then, of course, I added the Batman ears.

Kitchen/Cutout decor

I made this banner by hand, meaning I cut out each letter and pendent.
I wish I had a Silhouette machine!

More toys on display

A dozen balloons

Cake display

And here's my lovely pinata. I really wanted a pinata for his party but wasn't willing to spend $30 or so plus the cost of candy. So, I made it. It took a few hours but it only cost 50 cents...sweet!

Here's the table. I forgot to take a picture of what was on the table.
We displayed the Batman masks across the table and had Batman coloring pages for the kids to do while they were gathering. We also had a Batman cartoon playing as well.

So here's a close-up of the masks I made.
I used felt and black elastic.
It was so fun to see everyone be Batman!

The Batman Birthday Boy

I made his cape the night before so he'd be stylin' for the party.
And can't forget Batgirl. I also made Emma her very first cape.
She just loves it!

My pretty Bat Girl...isn't she adorable!

Coloring Batman

Watching Batman, waiting for everyone to come.

Here's the party crew, minus two kids who came late.

About to light the candles and sing...

Here's the craft we did: Batman Lollipops
We made Batman lollipops, complete with a felt cape, Batman logo, and a mask.
The kids LOVED it! And so did I!

Activity: Mr. Freeze froze Batman/Robin
The kids had to use squirt guns to unfreeze and save them!
It was so fun!

Party Schedule:
Watched Batman cartoon/color a Batman page
Pin the bat symbol on Batman
Made Batman lollipops
Mr. Freeze froze Batman/Robin
Pinata

22 weeks

August 22, 2012
22 weeks 1 day

So far, I am feeling great. I have kept up with my workouts, doing them 5 days a week, and it's actually becoming easier now. This is the first pregnancy that I have consistently worked out. I love it and it feels great! I seem to have more energy too!

I have gained a little more weight than I would have hoped but I guess this baby just needs more. I am eating healthy and getting lots of exercise, so it is what it is I guess. Our little girl is quite the active one. Jacob felt her move for the first time around 20 weeks. That was exciting! I'm now able to look down at my tummy and see movements. I just love that!

Oh yes, and I'm officially in maternity jeans now!

Here's a picture from today:
Talmage took this picture for me. :)
He had to stand on top of his castle to get this shot.
He did pretty good this time!

Girly Room

New Room for the Girlies
Friday, August 10

We ordered a twin bed and mattress a week ago for Emma. After doing that, I just had to have a dresser for her too, especially since the girls will be sharing a room. I needed the extra storage and I was so ready to get organizing. So, last Saturday I put the dresser together myself, with a little assistance from Jacob.

Ever since then, I've been thinking of painting the crib white. The dresser is white, as well as Emma's twin, so I wanted everything to match. So naturally, I got on Pinterest and looked up ways to safely paint a crib. While doing so, I kept thinking about how much I just wanted to buy a new crib but I knew it wasn't in the budget, especially since we had just purchased a twin bed frame, mattress, bedding & sheets, and a dresser already.

Then on Thursday, I suddenly remembered something about a recall. I had read up on it and the company said the drop down part of the crib was unsafe and they would sent us a kit so we could repair it. I thought that was ridiculous! And now, after lots of research, I did not want to paint that crib! I wanted a new one!

So yesterday I printed off all the recall information, took apart the entire crib and loaded it in the car. Off to Target we went! I was determined to get a new one! Sure enough, they read the information, took my crib, and gave me a nice Target gift card for the amount! Sweet! My hard work paid off. I found a new WHITE crib, just like a wanted, and it was actually $30 cheaper than my gift card. Unfortunately, they did not have my crib in stock.

Meanwhile, the furniture store called to say Emma's mattress and twin bed were in! We left Target and headed straight there, where they proceeded to strap the mattress and bed on top of our car. I know...it was crazy! After that, I realized that there was plenty of space in the backseat for the crib as well and the Target that has it in stock in only a few miles away from the furniture store. Yep..we're crazy! We headed off to Target with a mattress and bed strapped on top, picked up the crib and barely fit in the back seat. The target worker probably thought I was insane!

After that chaos, we headed straight, praying that the bed wouldn't fall off the car. I was so worried about that! We made it home safe, with the bed and mattress still intact. I unloaded the top of the car and managed to squeeze the crib out of the backseat. Talmage and I slid the crib box inside, where I then put it together. I was excited! I can't believe I did all this myself, with 2 kids!

Just as I finished the crib, it was time to pick Jacob up from work. We picked up a few things from Target with my leftover money from the gift card. :) And together, we finished putting the room together. Jacob brought the mattress and bed frame inside for me. We finally finished the room! I love it! I can't wait to add a few more touches to it!

Sweet Hubby

On Friday, August 3, Jacob came home from work with a dozen yellow roses and 3 bags of chocolate: Rolos, Hersheys Almonds & Whoppers. Isn't he just the sweetest?! He wanted me to have a chocolate stash for all my pregnancy cravings. Then last Tuesday, August 7, he surprised me by getting off work 2 hours early and bringing home dinner! LOVE! Here is a picture I took today or my roses...not to bad for 8 days old!
