Thoughts & Updates on Emma
Emma turned 5 months old a little over a week ago on the 12th. She weighs 14 lbs 10 oz now and is growing up so fast. Her little personality is shining through and I can't help but fall in love with her more each day. I absolutely love to see my two kids playing together. Talmage makes Emma laugh pretty much all day long. They are bonding more and more as they interact each day. I'm amazed at how much I am blessed to have such wonderful, beautiful children. Emma is such a mommy's girl, which I love.
She has brought with her many challenges for me, as a mother, to overcome. Talmage was definately and completely different as a baby. I thought he was hard...until I had Emma and I'm sure this pattern will continue with each baby. Tears have been shed and prayers offered, as seek advice and have concerns with my ability to mother Emma. She is a beautiful, sweet and loving little girl but it has been a struggle for me to help her sleep and get through her reflux and various (very mild) illnesses. I am starting to discover that I cannot be a mother on my own. I need the help of my husband, friends, family, and most importantly, my loving Heavenly Father. I have been greatly humbled by my calling as a mother. It is a divine role and responsibility that I sometimes lose sight of. I tend to get caught up in what other mothers say and compare my baby to others. It's hard. It's so hard but I'm learning. My baby is unique and the only one who truly knows what will work for her is Heavenly Father. I have to trust and have faith that He will guide me, as her mother, to do what's best for her, to create a routine, a sleeping habit, that will work.
Last night, Emma threw up, intensely, 9 times. It was scary. She is fine now and has a virus or stomach flu basically. I took her to the doctor and was able to receive a new prescription for her reflux and some good advice on how to handle the reflux. The doctor suggested that I pump my milk and add about 2 Tbls of rice cereal to every bottle I give her throughout the entire day. This should help her keep it down better and feel content. She also informed me that lots of babies don't sleep through the night until they've reached 6-7 months. That was comforting.
Today was a good day.

Sesame Street Live
On Saturday, April 30, we took Talmage and his cousin, Katie, to see Sesame Street Live. My dad had given us 4 tickets and since Emma was free, we decided to bring his cousin along, whose only 6 months older. They had a blast! It was really cool and our seats were in a suite! We had free popcorn, room service, and the kids could roam around our little suite if they were tired of sitting. Here are some pictures of our fun day.

Talmage's Burn
On Wednesday, March 16, about 3 weeks ago, Talmage burnt himself. I was cooking some quick scrambled eggs for breakfast while Talmage was on the opposite side of the stove, on the counter, coloring. I turned off the stove, took the pan off and turned around to grab a plate. Right when I turned around, Talmage thought the stove was no longer hot since it was off so he crawled across the stove, placing all his weight on his left hand (and he's left-handed). He wouldn't stop screaming and was crying so hard that blood was coming out of his nose. I scrambled through our medicine cabinet to see if we happened to have any burn cream on hand. Unfortunately, we didn't so I ended up giving him Children's Tylenol for the pain. Then I gave him an ice pack to hold. I had just gottenout of the shower but I knew that I needed to get help for him. So I quickly got dressed and headed out the door with no make-up and wet hair. We didn't have the car that day I put Talmage in a wagon. He could hardly walk because he was shivering and shaking from the extreme pain. We knocked on two neighbors doors and no answer. I finally decided to try our friends house around the block to see if they had burn cream or any ideas. She's a CNA so I thought she'd at least know what I should do. Her and her husband immediately took us to the Urgent Care in QC by our house. He was given pain medication, a presciption burn cream and his head was then wrapped. The doctor said that it was a really bad 2nd degree burn. It is now finally starting to heal. The pictures are of the first week of his burn when he blisters all over his hand. The blisters eventually popped and the doctor cut back all the dead skin from the blisters to expose the new raw skin. He finally can use his hand again and no longer needs it wrapped but it still is red and is in the process of healing. Poor little guy!
